Thought for the Moment from Word! "The Bible contains six admonishments to homosexuals and 362 admonishments to heterosexuals. That doesn't mean that God doesn't love heterosexuals. It's just that they need more supervision." -Lynn Lavner
I am working through some old video tapes and I watched the Apprentice episode where they sold this sandwich. It is sandwish toppings sandwiched between two pieces of pizza. You eat it cold, which if you know me is a sin. But I think the biggger question is why? Are we not fat enough already?
Microserfs is a wonderful book from Michael Copeland, from his wunderkind of Can Lit. It explores the lives a group of Microsoft Employees and the endless drugery of their lives. Until the majority of them jump ship and create a start-up and then tbe novel takes a sharp left turn. A wonderful book.
Too bad. I was actually rooting for them. Lynn was a bit of an old woman, but nowhere near as bad as Gretchen. Can not stand her. I am now rooting for Uchenna and Joyce. Anyone who shaves their head isn't all that bad.
YOU'RE BUSTED!: It looks like Apprentice finalist Chris Shelton forgot to take his Ritalin over the weekend. The tantrum-prone, tobacco-chewin' 22-year-old — one of Donald Trump's six remaining tycoon wannabes — was arrested early Sunday morning for disorderly conduct following a disturbance at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tampa, according to TheSmokingGun.com. Although the exact nature of the incident was not known, given Shelton's history of spontaneous convulsions, not to mention his corpselike mug shot (shown at right), TVGuide.com is gonna go out on a limb and assume alcohol, heavy dippin' and persistent voices played a role.
So today I actually managed to get outside and raked the lawn for about an hour. Got about one yard waste bag full, pluss some stuff in the composter. Also rolled the composter several times. The crocuses are blooming and the tulips are poking their heads up!
As part of the leadership course I am taking at church, I was asked to write a poem about service. Here is my attempt.
Service
Speaking for those who have lost their voice. Energizing those who have lost their spirit Reaching out to those who are alone. Vacating when someone more able comes along. Ignoring the petty sniping of those who are jealous. Calling out to those who have lost their way. Embracing those in need of love.
They have to design clothing for American Eagle Outfitters that incorpodrate technology.
Magna does market research, creates a cool logo and rocks the presentation. Tana, their PM is amazing. The producers try and make it look like they are going to loose, but you know they aren't/
Networth is a continual series of mess ups. The don't do market research. Chris looses the credit card. They try to stuff as much technology into each garmet ans is humanly possible. Their models were late. They were late for the presentation. Angie choked. And Alex did nothing.
So Magna got to go to a great clothing store.
Networth got the boardroom and Angie got fired cause she choked (although she rants that she didn't in the taxi) and Trump doesn't want a choker in his operation.
Is anyone surprised that Ulong lost again? Both challenges?
Well they did - and Koror won 55 gallons of fresh water and cleaning supplies at reward. But Tom wouldn't let them have a shower. That'll bite him in the ass.
Anyways - Ulong goes to tribal and Stephanie and Bobby John have to make fire and light a torch. Stephanie rocks this, basically by building a base to raise her fire up. So she is now the tribe of one.
Will see if next week has her competing as a tribe of one.
So yesterday, I got some bad news at work. Something that will affect what I do next school year, possibly even where I teach. I was very upset and trying to figure out my deicision. So I called a fellow teacher friend and left a message.
She called me back and we talked. I am much calmer now and feel better about the whole thing. I am thanking God for a friend like that right now. I have been blessed.
My reaction to last night's episode was very different from some people's. I thought it was actually closer in spirit to last season than almost anything else this season.
Yes - I love Adam. I love the relationship between him and Joan, but neither of them is perfect. They are in high school. How many of you made stupid, stupid mistakes in high school? How many of you made selfish decisions and lived to regret it?
I admire Jone for not forgiving him. I admire her for not letting Adam get away with it. It shows that she is a strong young woman. I am disappointed in Adam, but I hope that he grows from this and becomes a better man.
The fact that Joan and Adam have broken up is not surprising, this is a High School romance. Very few of them last past High School. I will be surprised if Grace and Luke last, as much as I like them and am rooting for them.
I think that some of the reaction is due to the fact that Adam has been placed on a pedestal. And we now know he has clay feet. We feel the betrayal as keenly as Joan.
I am very interested to find out what Helen's reaction will be. Her statement on Lily and Kevin is forshadowing as to what will happen when she finds out about Adam and Joan.
Watched this week episode, and once again, the ladies look dumb.
The fact that Michelle has open sores on her face and it takes several days to get her to the doctor. It turns out to impetigo - completely treatable. But the scenes with the ladies calling their mothers and learning about flesh eating bacteria could qualify for a comedy Emmy.
Tasks - they go to make-up school where Jay looks like an old man. They learn about how to do natural make-up, yet they don't apply those skills in the rest of the episode. Tyra comes to talk to them all and she suggests that Michelle go to the doctor. But she doesn't go! There is a contest where they have to do run-way make-up - Naima wins and she picks Lluvy and Christina to go with her to get a custom handbag designed by Lauren Scherr. Then they get made up to look like a different ethnicity and do a Got Milk ad. The professionals suggest to Jay that Michelle go to the doctor. And she does! And it is impetigo! Treatable! They aren't all going to die in horrible agony! That'll be next season. Anyways - the ladies have to hold a squirming kid while they are getting photographed, except for Michelle, who gets a doll since she is contagious.
So at judging the ladies have two minutes to do a fierce make-up job with no mirror or brushes. And the judges judge the job they do and the photos. Lluvy and Noelle are in the bottom two and Noelle goes home cause she isn't "modelly" enough. Yeah - even though Tatiana and Christina were so more deserving.
So they had to make Pizza this week in a streetside truck for Domino's. The Donald said he liked meatballs, so each team made sure to include meatballs on their pizza. Clever children.
Prior to the task, Networth got to steal Alex from Magna. Alex wasn't thrilled, but he went.
Both teams sold well, but Magna worked the local business. Networth hired models to pass out fliers, but they spent most of their time hanging around. And Alex and Chris got into a yelling match. So Networth lost.
Magna got to have breakfast with the Donald who regaled them with tales of his lif of excess (like how they got theoversize table into the suite). Networth got to go to the baordroom, where Stephanie took Alex and Chris with her. Much to her surprise, Alex told Trump that Stephanie was out of her league, and Trump agreed - and off she went. He also warned Chris to shape up or he would be out. (Carolyn doesn't like him, so I predict he is gone soon.)
A contracter who works with my school revealed something huge. Her parents both tragically died of cancer when she was in her twenties. She quite her job to look after her parents. After their deaths, she re-evaluated her life and decided she wanted a job that made a difference. So she came to teaching.
Why is this revealing? Well - I had very little respect for her. I found her abrasive, and difficult to work with. And I thought that she was a little rough on the kids. I tried to speak to her about this and her reation was "I respect your opinion, but I would still do it that way."
This is huge. A whole bunch of things clicked into place and I understood what was going on with her. The lense I use with my students snapped into place. If you have been hurt by life as much as this lady has, you tend to develop a negative interaction style. I have seen it a hundred times.
And so, inspite of myself, I begin to warm to her. Through this God has reminded me one of my favourite quotes - "Almost everybody has some light somewhere, and light is always worth fighting for." I have also been reminded to be less judgemental.
Ulong went down to defeat again. They lost both the reward - which involved lighting a signal flare for some MREs and immunity - which involved a floating sliding puzzle. After some flip flopping on Bobby John's part, he decides to stick with Stephenie and sending Ibrahim home.
Okay - so after the grumpiness of this morning now I have found God's light in my world.
* After a fill-up, I left my gastank cap completely off and drove home. A complete stranger got out of his car at a stoplight and let me know and then put it back on. * Kyrgyzstan's quest for democracy, reminding me of Russia, Ukraine, and all the other places where the people have made a difference
